Monster Spray

In order to help Eamon with his fear of monsters, Dave found some monster spray in a storage closet at work. Eamon is thrilled. He sprayed it in his room, his closet, the AC vents and the attic door. He said that is where the monsters like to hide. He says they don't like the smell and will go to someone else's house.
(He didn't want a picture taken with the spray)

Enough Time

Today we shopped for Ashlyn's 5th Birthday present. While we were loading up in the van to leave, Eamon asked if we were going to her party. I had to tell him, "No, not this year." He wanted to know why, so I explained that Texas is a long drive.

E: How long will it take?
H: Two days?
E: When is her birthday?
H: September 26
E: No, WHEN?
H: Wednesday?
E: No, WHEN?
H: I told you, Wednesday, September 26.
E: No, how many days?
H: Oh, three.
E: Then if it only takes two days to drive, we can make it.

Natural Art

We took the treasures we found in Flagstaff and used them with some local treasures on our fall wreath. The kids placed the items on the wreath, while I hot glued them. Our work of art is proudly displayed on our front door.

Cooler, Wetter Weather

On Sunday, we took a day trip to Flagstaff. We scoped out a hike that would be fun with the kids called the Veit Springs Trail. We set off with a bag to carry any special treasures that we might find. It was great, although we encountered a bit of rain. Eamon and Aine enjoyed picking up sticks, pine cones and pine needles. There were wildflowers on the path to stop and smell as well as many rocks to climb. We even managed to take a family photo. From the trail we headed into town stopping to look at a locomotive and a pick-up soccer game. The train was at the Pioneer Museum, and it was a huge hit.

We left the locomotive and drove by NAU. Eamon and Aine were impressed with the lumberjack outside the football stadium. As we drove through the city, it was raining. We spotted a beautiful rainbow which impressed Eamon and Aine.

Our last stop was at Granny's Closet for dinner and some climbing on the tractor outside the restaurant. It started to rain heavily as we headed out of town, and we were able to see some amazing lightning.

Soccer

Donning new shoes, shin guards and fancy socks, Eamon has entered the world of soccer. He enjoyed practice although he was reticent initially. Here he is sporting the "ready position"and kicking the ball.During the game, Eamon was a bit put off by all the chasing of the ball. He took a break and sat on the field for a bit. Here he is strategizing with a teammateand taking a break during the "half."Not to be outdone, Aine spent the game kicking the soccer ball with some siblings of another player.

OH MY WORD

We have been prepping the garden area for the season. Part of this involved a huge bag of gypsum as a soil amendment. The bag was partly used for our east garden and was under the patio waiting to be used in the west garden. Well, Eamon and Aine discovered the joys of throwing the gypsum, shoveling it, covering Ava and creating huge piles on the patio.

Bob and Wendy

Eamon and Aine like to participate in the Build and Grow program at Lowe's. Today the activity was building a bird feeder. Aine really liked hammering the nails although she decided to forgo the safety googles.
Eamon was a bith distracted because we were headed to buy new shoes after Lowe's.
Both were eager to show off their feeders and hang them in the backyard.

Yes, we can!

While Ashlyn was visiting, the two cousins played extensive games of Bob and Wendy. Eamon decided he wanted to be Bob today. He went and pulled on his overalls and added a plaid shirt. His finally accessory was the hat. He quipped, "Do I look like Bob?" YES, YOU DO!

Camping Experiment

We decided to test out our camping paraphenalia over the long weekend. The kid's enjoyed lunching in the screened canopy. They both liked sleeping in the tent and waking up to the birds. Our official maiden camping trip for the family is in mid-October.
