Mulberries have been a wonderful discovery for the kiddos. Eamon and Aine hunt for trees and pick as many as they can reach. They then return to an eager Benton with their bounty. He quickly gobbles them up and the hunt continues.
We discovered a tree on the property year before last and now it's always a race between us and the birds as to who can get to the berries first. I made a few batches of jam and oh my, it makes my mouth water just thinking of it!
We like picking mulberries on the bike path. The dark purple ones, that is. The light ones are "yucky and sour!!". Love the painted face in the last photo. Too cute!!
I love his face!

I have never had a mulberry...even though we have 5 Mulberry trees with no fruit on our property! Looks like so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteWhy no fruit, I wonder. They are quite good. Apparently the fruit spoils easily, so they are not sold commercially.
DeleteWe love mulberries too...our favourite fruit and fortunately have a little tree in our garden. They make great sorbet too.
ReplyDeleteMy husband like sweet white dried mulberries that are imported from Iran. They are little too sweet for me though.
The bottom photo is wonderful!

My kiddos would have loved to pick enough for sorbet. We will need to keep an eye out for the dried white ones. Thanks, Deb
