Finishing Touches

The knitting is done on my Que Sera sweater. It is now time for the hard part. For some reason finishing this sweater has been tough. I have spent significant time online about it. I have watched youtube videos, read articles and browsed ravelry forums. The shoulder seams are staggered and have a bit of the lace pattern. Next time I will use short rows for a smoother finish. The collar ended up with a lot more stitches picked up. I think it looks okay, but I may rip it out and start over. The sleeves sit waiting for a quiet moment. I am hoping that moment is this morning before the day starts.

I want it to look right, and this part is hard. Sewing together a sweater takes patience and time. I find myself trying to rush, so I have to continually tell myself to take it slowly. It fits thus far, and I want to wear it happily without thinking about wonky shoulder and sleeve seams. It will happen, and I will show it to you. I still owe a few photos of finished projects. They will come. Right now I just need to focus and take my time.

The kiddos and I have been thoroughly enjoying Horten's Miraculous Mechanisms. It is a nice story about a young boy's search for his uncle's long lost workshop. The quest takes him on a hunt throughout town with the help of a friend looking for the old magician's space. We only have a few more pages left. I would have finished last night if the hour had not been too late as we read. I have promised to finish it this morning. I am still plodding through The Butterfly Cabinet. It is a good story, but I think it needs a good sitting to read it. Reading it in bits and pieces is hard as the story takes a bit to unfold. I think I am too used to the speed of children's books and feel it languishes a bit.

Stay tuned in the next few days. I promise to show both sweaters finished! Perhaps a bit of button shopping should be added to the plan today. (As with every Wednesday, I am linking with Ginny and a whole host of other fiber enthusiasts. You should check it out).

  1. The sweater looks very pretty! I think finishing is always difficult. You finally finish knitting, just to have to then sew it together and weave in the ends...I have to say it usually takes me a while to actually finish anything :-) Can't wait to see the finished product!

  2. Heather, I hope you find quiet time this morning to work on your sweater. I am a lousy seamer [is that the right word?] so I understand, but I think with your resolve to take it slow your sweater is going to come out just like you plan and it is going to be stunning. I am looking forward to seeing those photos!

  14. I hate stitching up pieces! I nearly never do it, just for the deep hatred I have for the task. Go slow... take all the time you need... and I can't WAIT to see it when it's all done!

  19. What a lovely sweater! I also have trouble finishing things; I think because if I don't ever finish, it can't ever not have turned out right. That probably doesn't make much sense; I'm headed off to bed now. I hope those quiet moments have come and gone, and that you're admiring your new sweater. :) xo
