Slow Days

Some days are busy, full of activities and outings. These days are easy to talk about and showcase as we travel and explore. However these days are only possible when paired with slow, quiet days. With all the visiting and local exploration lately, it became apparent that each of us needed a break. A slow day was in order.

Although I call it a slow day, it is anything but dull. After haircuts at the local barber where daddy used to get his done, we came back to gram and pap's home for some quiet. We ate lunch in the backyard and didn't go back inside until dinner time. The kiddos spent the time swinging from their treasured rope, jumping off the deck and hurling their bodies through space. They improvised a swing with a broom handle and dreamt about staging a Halloween witch's flight.

They emptied a container of chalk and set about transforming the driveway. Lowercase lettering was practiced as well as discussions of names and familial lines. Caricatures of people and pets littered the ground. I suggested self-portraits and set to tracing each of the kiddos. They loved making these recreations of themselves. Each was so different.

I was so glad we had this quiet day. It gave us a chance to get a bit more sleep, enjoy the gorgeous weather and just be ourselves. It was definitely a good day.
