Leaves

Today we hung out at the zoo enjoying some unseasonably cool weather. The kids spent much time creating boats out of leaves and floating them down a lazy river.

No More Funk

I have been using a product called Funk Butter as deodorant for over a year. It works very well, but it can be pricey with shipping. I had heard of others making their own deodorant, so I decided to give it a try. My sister gave me a recipe, and it works great. It is so easy and cheap - equal parts baking soda and corn starch with enough coconut oil to make your desired consistency. I added a couple drops of tea tree oil as well. I really like it. I don't stink at all! It even stands up to rowing.

High over the town

The whole family headed out to the Maricopa County Fair on a whim. It was the last day of the fair, but we were still able to view quite a bit of livestock in the barns. Aine wanted a goat and Eamon just wanted to ride the rides. We also saw displays of quilting, knitting and children's crafts. The day was complete with a ride on the Ferris wheel. Eamon, Aine and Dave waved enthusiastically while Benton and I stayed on the ground.

Road Trip - Crown King

We set out to explore a remote town in Arizona called Crown King. Dave was curious about the town as it is up in the mountains and a living ghost town. We arrived in town after a long trip on a dirt road. The kids loved the town and ran around the general store. We walked around a bit, but we were definitely not dressed for the chilly weather and rain. We ae our lunch outside and enjoyed a real phone booth as well as cool mountain air.
