Fickle

This week I have been focusing more of my creative energies on sewing. I still haven't determined what to do for the quilt backing, but I love the ideas everyone provided. When I haven't been sewing, I have been reading. I picked up Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult from my parents' house this week. My mom had read it and thought it was fairly good. I had not planned to start it, but it was all I had at the gym one day. I started it and was hooked. It is a page-turner like most of her books, although not as good as some. I finished it in no time. I would recommend it as a quick easy read, however it does deal with neonaticide.
With so much of my spare time spent sewing and reading, my knitting has languished. I was able to knit a few rows here and there, but I still have a ways to go on the body of my sweater. I decided it would be helpful to know just how much more I should knit, so today I tried it on. It fits! I am so pleased. I need to knit another 6-8 inches in length, and I will be able to move on to the sleeves.

I also have another new read. A friend of mine recommended Freedom by Jonathan Franzen a few months ago. I have checked it out of the library twice, and the due date is looming. I decided to start it as well as read Coop. One of our librarians told me it is really good and has several holds, so there is no possibility of renewing it. If you need me, I am busy knitting the sweater, finishing up a pair of longies, reading two books and sewing a quilt. No problem, although I think I may be considered fickle in my pursuits lately.

  1. Haha, sounds like you've got lots on the go! You need to hire a page turner or perhaps a reader so you can get through your books while knitting and sewing!
Very exciting that your sweater fits!

  2. You are one busy gal :) I've been lagging in the book reading part this week and just had to return my book to the library to find myself at the bottom of the list again because there are so many wanting it and I couldn't renew it. I love Jodi Picoult though :) Haven't read this one so I'm going to have to add it to my list and hope to finish it one day *grin*.

  3. Wow -- so much going on with you!

I find that I'm either very productive with sewing or with knitting ... never both at the same time

Thanks for the book ideas! I just finished The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (amazing!) and Unbroken (so tragic -- but so engrossing).

It is so hard to balance sewing and knitting and reading, i'd love to be able to do them all simultaneously!

  6. I get into that kind of week, where I just can't stay on one project.
Doesn't it make life more fun to be involved in lots of activities?
Are you enjoying Freedom? I just finished it.

I am wishing I could sew or knit at this point! The fact that you manage to get some of both done AND some reading...you're my hero :)

  15. There is not enough time in the day for all of your interests! I have so many books I want to read and things that I want to knit and sew. It is overwelming!

  16. My sewing has been taking a back seat to the knitting, and I really need to get the machine out. I have a few projects that just need to be finished.

So glad to hear the sweater fits, I always let out a sigh of releif when I finally know if fits. Well done.

Good luck getting the books finished before they have to be returned.

    Blessings, Elizabeth
