Well my resistance is only so strong. I started watching Craigslist. I really had no intention of buying anything, but I was curious. Then along came Nellie.
She is a Singer 99k, and she now belongs to the kiddos. They love her. I bought her for $20, and I couldn't be happier. We oiled the gears, and she is in fantastic condition. The machine currently has a motor, but it can easily be converted to a handcrank. We may do this, but have not yet decided.
I have been showing Eamon and Aine how to thread her and sew. They are very excited. Today they each sewed a gift bag from holiday material. They are very pleased with their work. Pajama pants are next. I think it was a great investment, and I am glad Sarah is my friend despite her bad influence.
Oh, what a sweet addition!
ReplyDeleteI want to learn how to do knitting... any ideas on good places to start?
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are so great! Tell the kids they can start making Gus a blanket... :D
Cathy - check out your local yarn store for a beginner class. A lot of times, they will be able to help you right in the store to learn the basics like casting-on, knit, and purl. There are also tutorials online - knittinghelp.com is a good one. You may want to ask around in your mom's groups. Someone may know how to knit and be willing to teach you.
