It is now the time of year, which I face with mixed emotions. I try to remember all the good that will come of this time. I focus on the fact that it only lasts a few months. I surround myself with others who are sympathetic. I look at the young people and know it is good. I push aside memories of the late nights spent trying to get the numbers to balance. I try to forget the worry over boothing and cash boxes. I focus on the positive, because for our family, there is no escaping Girl Scout cookie time.
I am the leader of a Girl Scout troop. The troop is comprised of homeschooling girls eager for fun, friends, crafts, and cookies. In an effort to help with our sale this year, I am also the cookie mom. Instead of my current book, I am reading all the cookie material. I am also acquainting myself with the online record keeping and stressing a bit about the whole process.
In an effort to remain sane, I am casting on for a few projects of varying skill. I am making some socks with afterthought heels in self-striping yarn. A cozy pair of lacy legwarmers made from stash yarn is my more difficult project on the needles. The final project is the Through the Loops mystery sock. I am hoping each will keep me distracted enough but present enough to make it through the next few months of cookie sales.
So, if you see me a bit frazzled, know that I will probably ask you if you want a cookie.
((hug)) count us in for a few boxes. i never liked the cookie time, and i wasn't even a leader!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Hopefully you can get a lot of knitting done whilest helping with sales ;) And I hope your girls sell lots!
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean. I just started a 4H craft club for homeschool girls and I too am wayyyy busy getting it together. Knitting is a great stress reliever isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI haven't had any since I was a kid but I remember some chocolate minty cookies that were the shizam!
ReplyDeletegood luck with the cookie sales! Your knitting project sound like the perfect balance:)
ReplyDeleteI find that having projects of varying difficulty going simultaneously is the perfect antidote to stress. When I need to forget everything else, the more difficult project does the job. When my brain just needs to disengage and rest for a while, easy project, here I come! Good luck with both.
ReplyDeletehappy days mama, happy days xx
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to have a few stress releasing projects going, it helps.
ReplyDeleteGirl Scout cookies already? The girls here set up outside of that terrible all purpose store and sell their cookies, I buy many boxes of Thin mints for my husband! ;)
Good luck with cookie season!
ReplyDeleteKnitting does offer relaxation. Hope you can enjoy the cookie time instead of being stressed through the whole thing. (I know I'd be stressed!) The only G.S. cookies that I like are the thin mints. Of course, wouldn't it be nice if Girl Scouts offered a healthy or organic alternative?
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a girl scout that knocked on our door:)
ReplyDeletei love girls scout cookies...definitely a weakness of mine! I actually wish they were allowed to sell them online, we never have anyone around here that sells them :-)
ReplyDeleteGirl scout cookie time! Love the peanut butter chocolate ones. Can't remember their name.
ReplyDeleteHope you have great sales! and knit to relieve your cookie stress :)
I considered the mystery sock you posted right up until the comment about "bobbles." I think I'm too "Vanilla" for bobbles.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, lacy legwarmers. I hadn't thought of that. I think I might have to add that to my to do list.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
It sure seems like cookie time came quickly this year. Hoping you have a successful and *fun* time!
ReplyDeleteoh dear, i'm sure you'll do fine, and bless the knitting that will surely help. all your projects sound great!
ReplyDeleteOh my, you are a queen! You are cookie mom and the leader?! I am in awe. I am sure you will do just fine. You are a whole lot nicer than I am. ;) Knitting saves the nerves; I look forward to seeing your projects.

Made me laugh because I was once a girl scout leader, too! My daughter was in a homeschool GS troop as well. You can do it! Yes, I know you can!
ReplyDeleteGolly, the stress! Hope the knitting brings some relief ;)
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with the cookie sales! It looks like you've got some great knitting projects to see you through!
ReplyDeleteWow - i love learning about all these things in the world. i have never heard of this - and to think it has it's own season too. What a good kind woman you are xxx
ReplyDeleteOh boy. You are a brave mama! I remember selling cookies quite a few years ago when I was a girl guide.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your sanity/distraction knits! ;)
Thanks for the laugh! I am visiting from Ginny's. Blessings for a peaceful cookie time.
